Memorial Day weekend promises to be eventful for Frenchman’s Creek Beach & Country Club members and their guests. The highlights are the Americana Mixed Couples Golf on Sunday, May 26th at 8:30 am at the Golf Course, the Summer Kickoff Dinner on the same day at 5:30 pm at the 19th Hole, and the Memorial Day BBQ Dinner on Monday, May 27th.

Memorial Day is observed on the last Monday in May in honor of the men and women who gave their life in defense of the country. The holiday also officially marks the first weekend of the summer season and fashion tradition now inspires the wearing of white shoes and clothing. Sport your red white and blue for this patriotic weekend!

The Frenchman’s Creek Weekly Bulletin regularly publishes tips on how to use the iPhone. Page 4 of the April 26th issue is a handy guide that you can print out and use as a reference. It describes the Home button, the primary physical control on the phone and provides an illustrated list of frequently used icons.

The list relates the icons to some of the apps that make use of them. For example, the default mail app uses the Compose icon, and the Safari Browser uses the bookmark icon. Some apps, for example the music app, use an ellipsis icon to access additional options that are just one more click away.

Beverage Manager Stephen Fisher has been working with Kermit Lynch to bring a fine selection of fine wine to your table for this occasion. Mr. Lynch is an award-winning importer of fine wines. If you are a wine connoisseur, you will also likely know his name. A wine list is available in the monthly email, or you may call the Beverage Department for the list and to make your reservation.

Frenchman’s Creek Beach & Country Club – Foreign Film Festival Presents “The Stoning of Soraya M.”

Frenchman’s Creek Beach & Country Club invites you to the presentation of the film, “The Stoning of Soraya M.” The showing is on Wednesday, April 24th, from 5:30 to 7:45 p.m. in the Men’s Card Room. The film is a true story based on a book about the stoning of a woman in Iran in 1990.

The author of the book is French-Iranian journalist Freidoune Sahebjan, who reported on crimes of the Iranian government against its citizens. His father is a former Iranian ambassador. Freidoune learned about Soraya’s fate when he travelled through her village.

The book was banned in Iran, but the film won the Director’s Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival. The film also won placement as second runner-up for the Cadillac People’s Choice award.

Frenchman’s Creek Beach & Country Club invites its residents and their guests to a fascinating presentation by Dr. Ryohei Yasuda on a major breakthrough in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease. Dr. Yasuda is Scientific Director and Research Group Leader at the Max Planck Florida Institute.
